Apical Resection With Bone Grafting
♫ Wednesday, September 14th, 2011
Sinus lifting is a surgery that adds bone to the top jaw (maxilla) for prosthetic reasons. It consists of 2 parts:
* sinus lifting, in which the sinus membrane is raised to create space.
* bone grafting, in which the bone graft material necessary to help the body grow bone is implemented in the freed space.
Sometimes when you want a dental implant operation in the front upper jaw you find that the bone mass is not enough to sustain the dental implants. This can have different causes, among which:
* periodontal disease
* if teeth have been missing for a long time, bone begins to resorb
* difference in shape and size of the sinus among individuals
You should not blow your nose or sneeze. If you have seasonal allergies you should be careful to schedule the procedure when they are not active. You will be given pain medication, saline sprays, antibiotic and an antimicrobial mouthwash to help prevent infection. Most patients experience only small discomfort after the sinus lift procedure.
